Baha'i Communities in Illinois
The first mention of the Baha'i Faith in the United States occurred in Illinois at the World Parlaiment of Religions in 1897. Illinois is home to the first Baha'i temple in the Americas, which was built in Wilmette. The cornerstone for that building was laid by 'Abdu'l-Baha on his year-long travel through the United States and Canada in 1912. The National Spiritual Assembly of the United States has its headquarters in Evanston, Illinois.
